Albert Bandura Essay Example

Albert Bandura Paper Composing Assignment #1 Bandura, Ross, Ross (1961). Transmission of hostility through impersonation of forceful models In 1961, Bandura, D. Ross, and S. Ross led an examination on 72 pre-younger students to analyze and investigate the â€Å"Social Learning† hypothesis. The Social Learning hypothesis recommends that human conduct is observationally learned through displaying: from watching others, one structures a thought of how new practices are performed. They anticipated that subjects Method: Design: The members were picked by circumstance testing from Stanford University Nursery School. Members comprised of 36 young men and 36 young ladies, and two grown-ups, a male and a female, both being a good example. The members were partitioned into eight exploratory gatherings of six subjects each and a benchmark group comprising of 24 kids. Half of the test members saw forceful models, while the other half were indicated nonaggressive models. These gatherings were then additionally isolated into male and female subjects, and half of the youngsters in the forceful and non-forceful gatherings watched same-sexed models, while the other half saw other gender models. The benchmark group was not presented to any grown-up models The subjects were evaluated on four five-point rating scales by the experimenter and a teacher. These appraisals estimated the degree to which the youngsters showed verbal animosity, physical hostility, hostility toward cozy articles, and forceful restraint. Technique: Subjects were exclusively brought to the trial room and were accompanied to one corner of the room, which was their play region. In the wake of seating the kid at a little table, the experimenter clarified how subjects could develop and configuration pictures with potato prints and picture stickers. The model then again was brought to the contrary corner of the room which comprised of a little seat, table, hammer, tinker toy set, and a 5-foot swelled Bobo doll. The experimenter disclosed to the model that the materials gave was to him/her to play with. With members in the forceful condition, the model amassed the handyman toys and depicted demonstrations of hostility towards the Bobo doll; the model ceaselessly punched the Bobo doll, utilized a hammer to hit the Bobo doll’s head, and hurled it up the air and kicked it. In addition, the model made non-forceful remarks, for example, â€Å"He sure is an intense fella,† and â€Å"He holds returning for additional. † After 10 minutes, the experimenter educated the subject that he would now be brought to another game room. The subjects were then taken into another room loaded up with fascinating toys, a portion of a forceful sort, for example, a 3-foot Bobo doll, a hammer and a peg board, and some nonaggressive, for example, a tea set, pastels, and shading paper, a ball, and plastic livestock. The subjects were seen through a single direction mirror, and practices, for example, physical animosity, verbal hostility, and the occasions the hammer was utilized to strike the Bobo doll was surveyed. Results: Confounds inside examination: There are insignificant jumbling factors inside the test as Bandura, Ross, and Ross utilized a research facility explore technique to lead their esearch. The usage of a research center test technique permitted the experimenters to normalize conditions for all the subjects and procure more noteworthy control of incidental factors, which accordingly prompted a more grounded inner legitimacy. Interior legitimacy is how much a watched impact is because of the exploratory control instead of different factors, for example, unessential factors. Some conceivable puzzling factors were maintained a strategic distance from and controlled. Initially, the individual contrasts were constrained by guaranteeing subjects were evaluated for hostility before the examination. This takes out a potential incidental factor †singular contrasts in animosity. Furthermore, the subjects inside the control and trial bunches were coordinated for forcefulness to guarantee equivalent creations of the gatherings. Accordingly, the information couldn't be influenced by previous degrees of animosity; in this way, causal connections can be made. Besides, all the subjects were somewhat disappointed before delineating forceful conduct. The subjects were permitted to play with the appealing toys for a couple of moments until they were told by the experimenter that the toys were for other different kids. Subsequently, the expansion in their passionate incitement was around equivalent, before they were allowed a chance to be forceful. In conclusion, the experimenter appraised the forceful degrees of the members with a nursery teacher that was all around familiar with kids. This diminished the odds of subjectivity. Albeit the vast majority of the unessential and bewildering factors were contemplated, there are some frustrating factors that may have slanted the outcomes. Since there is high control in a research facility test, there is the chance of this prompting an imagined circumstance, and, lost genuine legitimacy. Therefore, the issue of interest trademark may have happened. An interest trademark is when members know about the experimenter’s desire and how they are anticipated to carry on. Subsequently, members would change their conduct to fit the experimenter’s desire, which would bring about unrepresentative and invalid discoveries. The youngsters may have known about what was anticipated from them; one of the members said â€Å"Look Mummy, there’s the doll we need to hit† Noble (1975). Significance of the investigation to the field: Albert Bandura’s achievement in his analysis has permitted him to demonstrate and check the Social Learning hypothesis. The Social Learning hypothesis or observational learning is presently generally acknowledged as a helpful hypothesis in the field of brain research; it very well may be utilized to shape wanted and worthy practices and dispense with undesirable perspectives. Some intricate practices, for example, language, would most likely never be learnt and created except if youngsters were presented to individuals who displayed them. Observational learning empowers youngsters to collect numerous reactions and practices in a huge assortment of settings where the models are playing out their day by day exercises and schedules. A few instances of observational learning would be watching guardians peruse and compose, parent’s mentality and reaction toward a specific situation, moral conduct, and moral choices. Moreover, Bandura has additionally built up a treatment called ‘’modeling therapy,† which is gotten from observational learning. The demonstrating treatment features the significance of learning through perception of good examples, and finding out about remunerations and discipline that follow conduct. The treatment has been demonstrated and is utilized to annihilate undesirable practices, fears, and uneasiness issue. Bandura’s Social learning Theory is likewise applied for instructive purposes. Instructors have discovered that observational learning is a compelling educating device. Observational learning forms â€Å"greatly impact children’s adapting to strife, disappointment, scholastic stressors, and failure† (Zimmerman Schunk, 2003, p. 442). With information on observational learning, they can be cognizant and mindful of their activities, being careful and sure that they are depicting an ethically right conduct to their understudies. Customary behaviorists accepted that all life forms learned similarly; all conduct is found out through the earth, and this was clarified through operant and old style molding. To put it plainly, the learning point of view was constrained to these methods. The revelation and check of the Social Learning hypothesis has contributed towards the general move of the learning point of view to consolidate subjective and social procedures; it shows that learning was not just founded on a lot of improvement reaction affiliations. Moreover, the social learning hypothesis ventures into the psychological perspective’s domain, permitting improvement for progressively viable methods. The hypothesis can be viewed as a scaffold between the learning point of view and the intellectual viewpoint, as it consolidates consideration and memory.

A successful 2018 Language Advocate convention We just wrapped up our third annual Language Advocate convention, where we were joined by 30 Language Advocates representing 20 languagesâ€"and a whopping 14 different alphabets! Khan Academy staff and Language Advocates exchanged best practices on everything from marketing and  fundraising to effectively partnering with schools using Khan Academy in the classroom. Language Advocates also shared translation tips and tools with each other and presented to the entire Khan Academy staff about their efforts to make Khan Academy available around the world. Last but certainly not least, each Language Advocate brought a tasty treat from their home country so everyone could share in a delicious, international buffet.Language Advocates work hard to make sure Khan Academy content isn’t just translated into different languages but made applicable to each country’s local context. For example, an English math problem about a game of baseball may turn into a problem about a game of soccer in Portuguese or cricket in Hindi. A major focus of the convention was the 2019 goal of creating fully localized curricula for many countries. Just as students and teachers in the Un ited States can currently find AP courses on Khan Academy, students and teachers in other countries will be able to find courses that are aligned to their own national curricula. Finally, Language Advocates met with Sal to discuss the future of Khan Academy, which led to both a great conversation and a fun livestream of the team. The Cross And The Switchblade By David Wilkerson - 1025 Words

In his book, The Cross and the Switchblade, David Wilkerson explains how his ministry started. Over 15 million people have read his book which was published in 1962 through The Berkley Publishing Group, and in 1969, his book became a Hollywood motion picture that reached over 50 million people. Wilkerson did not stop at this book. In fact, he continued to write over 30 more books. (Worldchallenge.org, 2014, pg. 1) With that said, The Cross and the Switchblade s thesis statement is that the Holy Spirit is in charge. David Wilkerson, a country preacher from Pennsylvania, is the founder of Teen Challenge. This organization started in 1958 and still runs today as a ministry to save those with habits that are life controlling. Teen Challenge has become one of the most effective ways to reach out to teenagers and young adults who are dealing with issues related to gangs, drugs, and alcohol. However, the road to success was very challenging for Wilkerson and his team. (Worldchallenge.org, 2 014, pg. 1) Anyone who picks up The Cross and the Switchblade is Wilkerson s potential audience. He wrote this book in order to share his journey of starting the ministry that we now call Teen Challenge. Most likely, Pentecostals will read this story. Even so, this book can also be an instrument in salvation for others. I believe that Wilkerson understood both of these statements and, thus, wrote his book in such a way to minister to all peoples. The Role Of The Media In Democracy Essay - 1490 Words

How much does your vote really count? As a voter, does your choice really matter? How much influence does the media have on your vote? How many choices does the media actually make when it comes to our nations leadership? These are questions pondered by both political scientists and the average American citizen each year as the second Tuesday in November approaches. Though we know that the framers founded this nation on the principles of representing its citizens, and on the ideals of a nation for the people and by the people; it is obvious that the people feel that their vote doesnt always count. In this paper I plan to expand on these questions and the justifications behind asking them, and I plan to follow up with a specific†¦show more content†¦Thousands of our nations men and women were fighting for their country, yet the media limited the amount of information that they chose to pass on to the public. Each day the media is faced with the choice of making decisions of w hat news to pass on, when that news could make a significant difference in someones life, or in the fate of our nation. How much does the media effect your choices in voting? When we first ask this question, we think of the obvious. The media informs us of canidates, their personal backgrounds, their ideology, their stances on issues, things they do in the community they represent, and the platform on which they plan to run. However, once they get past the initial introduction, they quot;tend to be highly critical of politicians; they consider it their job to find inaccuracies in fact and weakness in argument.quot; (Janda et al., 192) They force the faults of politicians on us, seldom speaking of the positive aspects from that point on. This, in turn, gives the voters a negative vision of their representatives as leaders. If faults are constantly being pointed out, voters begin to think that all politicians are incompetent and unable, and therefore see no need to vote. The media does not intentionally force these negative views upon the mass public; rather they point out the faults because it makes a better story. Although the media does not directly create or change opinions, it tells the public what to think about. Puritan Essay Free Essays

Mary Nejatifar Ms. Graff English 11H October 11, 2012 Colonization in America Some of the first Europeans to explore and settle in the New World were the English Puritans. In the 17th century, a man called John Winthrop traveled to Massachusetts Bay along with many other Puritans. We will write a custom essay sample on Puritan Essay or any similar topic only for you Order Now With troubles with the Church of England, this group of people wanted to launch new lives on a new continent. To support their desires, John Winthrop offered several reasons and arguments to support moving to New England. Winthrop used figurate language to express the views and wants of he and his fellow Puritans. One of his main reasons was that the group of people could, â€Å"carry the Gospel into those parts of the world, and to raise a Bulwark against the kingdom to Antichrist† (Winthrop, 309). He metaphorically explained that with the spread of their civilization their religion would strengthen their church and build a defense wall against anybody who disagreed with a Puritan lifestyle. John Winthrop then reasoned that, â€Å"This Land grows weary of her Inhabitants,† which tells his views on humans and their relationship with the Earth (Winthrop, 309). He tried to explain that Europe was getting way too overcrowded, and needed to be reduced. Winthrop final attempt in his document is to use hyperboles to exaggerate the need to move. He says that, â€Å"†¦all arts and trades are carried in that deceitful and unrighteous course, as it is almost impossible for a good and upright man to maintain his charge and live comfortable in any of them,† (Winthrop, 309). Here, he really stressed the word impossible to hopefully open up people’s mind to the idea of a new life. The most embellished reason Winthrop lists is, â€Å"the fountain o Learning and Religion are so corrupted as†¦most children are perverted, corrupted, and utterly overthrown by the multitude of evil examples†¦Ã¢â‚¬ (Winthrop, 309). This is where John really tied in religion with their religion to leave. He included children, and explains that they are becoming so corrupted, and our future cannot be like that. In the late sixteenth century, the majority of England’s population started to grow poor and full of common people. Many people had to become beggars, and worked as wage laborers. Richard Hakluyt, Hayluyt gave an account of many advantages there would be if the English settled in the New World. Richard used a lot of hyperboles, and details to explain his reasons. He first argument was, â€Å"For all the statues that hitherto can be devised, and the sharp execution of the same in punishing idle and lazy persons, for want of sufficient occasion of honest employments, cannot deliver our commonwealth from multitudes of loiterers and idle vagabonds,† (Richard, 36). He is basically suggesting that instead of having a growing poor population, the country can send the beggars to a new land so they can have successful lives, but more importantly jobs. Richard also explains that the population is becoming way too overcrowded. He claims that, â€Å"nay rather they are ready to eat up one other; yea many thousands of idle persons are within this realm,† (Richard, 36). Then Richard focuses on what is already in the New World they can benefit from. He lists many trees, resources, crops, and geographic features that will benefit them in the greatest. Richard really took his approach in a positive way and later invested his own money in the company that colonized Virginia. Richard and John Winthrop both used a lot of figurative language. Winthrop used a lot of imagery, metaphors, and personification. He also used sort of a negative tone towards England, and his document sort of became a complaint. Whereas, Richard used a more positive tone and focused on exaggerating the advantages of new lives in the New World. They both used their language in a tone that made them seem very committed and eager to get their ideas into place. How to cite Puritan Essay, Essay examples Puritan Essay Free Essays

I have decided to use five scenes with the images at the top of the page Muriel at the beginning of the movie struggling to fit in or belong in any way as seen by the drink thrown in her face and her four â€Å"friends† all with the emotion of anger and disgust on their faces. Brightness Falls essays

Brightness Falls essays Jay McInerneys novel Brightness Falls portrays the life of a young middle class couple in pursuit of attaining the American dream in urban America in the 1980s. The novel follows the couple, Russell and Corrine Calloway, as well as their friends in their middle and upper class social circles, as they struggle with such social issues as adultery, drug addiction, ambition, corruption, and failure. McInerney uses literary elements such as setting to develop the novels plot and to portray an accurate social satire on middle and upper class America. The most prominent settings used to depict character conflict and development, moods, and themes are New York, St. Maarten, and the Hamptons. Each of these settings helps define thematic topics and examines the development of each character in relation to their environment. The main setting in Brightness Falls is New York City, where the Calloways live in their small, but fashionable one bedroom apartment. In New York, Corrine works as a stock broker on Wall Street, while Russell works as a publisher for Corbin and Dern. Russell and Corrine are viewed by their friends as the impenetrable golden couple, whos love would never die. However, as the novel progresses their love and trust for each other slowly disintegrates because of the corruption of life in New York City. Corrine and Russell had been married for five years. Theyd known each other eight years before that, having met in college. Their friends viewed them as savvy pioneers of the matrimonial state, as if they had homesteaded one of those formerly marginal areas of the city into which the fashion-conscious were just now beginning to follow. In the years theyd lived in New York, their East Side apartment had become a supper club for their less settled acquaintances, a sort of model unit for those thinking of buying into the neighborhood of matrimony. For the recently conjoined, it was a sa...

Show, Dont Tell The Simple Guide for Writers

Show, Dont Tell The Simple Guide for Writers Show, Dont Tell: What You Need to Know You’ve heard it a thousand times from writing mentors, and you’ll hear it a thousand times more: Show, don’t tell. But what does it mean? If you struggle with the difference between showing vs. telling, you’re not alone. Once you’ve got it, it seems simple. But until you do, this maxim causes as many questions as anything in the writing world.    Is it really that important? You bet it is. If you want your writing noticed by a publisher or an agent- and for the right reasons- it’s vital you master the art of showing. So let’s see if I can solidify the concept in your mind right here, right now. I want to supercharge your showing vs. telling radar- and make it simple. Need help fine-tuning your writing?  Click here to download my free self-editing checklist. The Difference Between Showing vs. Telling When you tell rather than show, you simply inform your reader of information rather than allowing him to deduce anything. You’re supplying information by simply stating it. You might report that a character is â€Å"tall,† or â€Å"angry,† or â€Å"cold,† or â€Å"tired.† That’s telling. Showing would paint a picture the reader could see in her mind’s eye. If your character is tall, your reader can deduce that because you mention others looking up when they talk with him. Or he has to duck to get through a door. Or when posing for a photo, he has to bend his knees to keep his head in proximity of others. Rather than telling that your character is angry, show it by describing his face flushing, his throat tightening, his voice rising, his slamming a fist on the table. When you show, you don’t have to tell. Cold? Don’t tell me; show me. Your character pulls her collar up, tightens her scarf, shoves her hands deep into her pockets, turns her face away from the biting wind. Tired? He can yawn, groan, stretch. His eyes can look puffy. His shoulders could slump. Another character might say, â€Å"Didn’t you sleep last night? You look shot.† When you show rather than tell, you make the reader part of the experience. Rather than having everything simply imparted to him, he sees it in his mind and comes to the conclusions you want. What could be better than engaging your reader- giving him an active role in the storytelling- or should I say the story-showing? Show, Dont Tell Examples Telling: When they embraced she could tell he had been smoking and was scared. Showing: When she wrapped her arms around him, the sweet staleness of tobacco enveloped her, and he was shivering. Telling: The temperature fell and the ice reflected the sun. Showing: Bills nose burned in the frigid air, and he squinted against the sun reflecting off the street. Telling: Suzie was blind. Showing: Suzie felt for the bench with a white cane. Telling: It was late fall. Showing: Leaves crunched beneath his feet. Telling: She was a plumber and asked where the bathroom was. Showing: She wore coveralls carried a plunger and metal toolbox, and wrenches of various sizes hung from a leather belt around her waist. â€Å"Point me to the head,† she said. Telling: I had a great conversation with Tim over dinner and loved hearing his stories. Showing: I barely touched my food, riveted by Tim. â€Å"Let me tell you another story,† he said. Is Telling Ever Acceptable? Yes, it’s a mistake to take show, don’t tell as inviolable. While summary narrative is largely frowned upon, sometimes it’s a prudent choice. If there’s no value to the plot/tension/conflict/character arc by showing some mundane but necessary information, telling is preferable. For instance, say you have to get your character to an important meeting and back, before the real action happens. Maybe he has to get clearance from his superiors before he can lead a secret raid. Rather than investing several pages showing every aspect of the trip from packing, dressing, getting a cab to the airport, going through security, boarding the plane, arriving at his destination- you quickly tell that this way: Three days later, after a trip to Washington to get the operation sanctioned by his superiors, Casey packed his weapons and camo clothes and set out to recruit his crew. Then you immediately return to showing mode, describing his visits to trusted compatriots and getting them on board. Why the Book Is Usually Better Than the Movie    The theater of the reader’s mind is more powerful than anything Hollywood can put on the screen. Well-written books trigger the theater of the mind and allow readers to create their own visual. Your writing can do the same if you master showing rather than telling. Need help fine-tuning your writing?  Click here to download my free self-editing checklist. Have another question about showing vs. telling? Ask me in the comments.

The concept of no liability increases investment in the industry as it does not bind to its shareholders and they can withdraw from the company2. The difference between a no liability company and other companies is that a no liability company’s shareholders are not liable to pay calls on any unpaid shares. The conventional provision of companies is that the purchase of shares is a contract that is binding and shareholders bound to pay for the shares when there is a call. The position is that if the shareholder does not pay the share there is a forfeiture of the already paid up shares and the unpaid shares. The provision of a no liability company concerning the shares gives confidence investors in potentially uncertain mining undertaking. This is the reason because a shareholder who has unpaid shares can elect to pull out from the company without any legal penalties. In the case of Mac Stevenson, the best company would be a no liability company. The choice of a no liability company is because the mining ventures are uncertain and; therefore, investors are not willing to invest in such companies. The provisions of the no liability company tend to encourage investors into investing in mining companies. When there is uncertainty in the ventures of a company the investors would still be willing to buy the company shares. This is because they are not compelled to pay on making of calls to pay. The provisi ons of a no liability company fit this provision, as the shareholders who will purchase the share in the Mac Stevenson’s company will be more willing to invest in the venture. This is especially so since they are uncertain in the future of the company they will not be bound to pay the unpaid share if they will see no future for the company. The company will be a small company, according to 45A a company can be a large or a small company. Mac Stevenson’s company will fit into the small company. This is because it satisfies two of the criteria that are it should have gross operating revenue of less than $25m and its gross assets are less than $12.5m. Mac Stevenson’s company has operating revenue of less than $25m and its gross assets are not in excess of $12.5m, therefore, fits into the category of small business. On the other hand, Mac Stevenson can the can expand the business to install solar panels with the batteries3. However, the expansion cannot be done the any liability company as the provision of the no liability company restricts the operations of companies registered as no liability to only mining ventures and as such, they cannot operate other business dealings like installing solar panels4. The expansion realized when the company converts to a limited liability company. The general undertaking is that when a no liability mining company becomes

Ambition, Commitment and Enthusiasm in My Education Essay

Ambition, Commitment and Enthusiasm in My Education - Essay Example Despite my commitment to education in my childhood education, I always liked being close to my parents. Rodriquez explains that sometimes he would be detached from his parents due to his ambitious reading (Bartholomae & Petrosky, 2005). In my case, reading and education never threatened my relationship with parents and siblings. Whenever my parents were hasty to go somewhere or do something, I would go with them, bringing my book along with me. I learned to balance between family and education life since I was young. My parents always encouraged me, giving me the motivation to improve my study skills and perform better in school. I was not confident in my education when I was young, just like Rodriguez. However, my parents always reminded me that I had the ability to achieve my dreams. I built my confidence slowly, and by High School I was confident. Before making any significant decisions regarding my education, I consulted my parents who would always give me pieces of advice that c hanged my approaches positively. Rodriguez also changed his attitude from the third year, showing the similarity between his education and mine.   From a middle-class family, my adjustment to the classroom was also difficult, but my desire to improve academically led me to adjust easily. I was used to the home’s plentiful love, support, food, and play with my siblings and parents.   It was not easy for me to adapt to this system, but I always reminded myself of the achievements I targeted in education.

Nostalgia In Cinema Paradiso Film Studies Essay

Nostalgia In Cinema Paradiso Film Studies Essay In Cinema Paradiso, Toto goes to watch a film with 50 lire his mother gives him to buy milk. He is not supposed to go to the cinema house and yet he cant  stay away from Cinema Paradiso. In this scene, we see Toto watching the film in awe along with others from the community. The theater is packed and alive. Gisueppe Tornatore, the director, pays great attention to detail-facial expressions, gestures and reactions of the crowd are well captured. The theater stall and balcony reflect the class divide. The kids take the front row, working class Italians fill the stall, the rich man, who spits sits in the balcony, and the projectionist, Alfredo is stuck in the dingy projection room. Like Toto, I watched films when I was in school. I bunked school and went with my friends to watch an Indian Bollywood film in Mumbai, India. We all chipped in our pocket money and went for the movies. Like Italian Cinema, Indian films were an occasion for families and communities to come together. This was before the multiplexes. The cinema house that I visited was small like Cinema Paradiso. It had one screen, stalls and balcony. People whistled during kissing scenes, some kids danced during a song-dance sequence and grown men sometimes cried during an emotional scene. In that scene in Cinema Paradiso, Toto is watching La terra Trema (The Earth Trembles) directed Luchino Visconti.  The audience reception of the film is lukewarm and most people dont get the language and context of this Neorealism film. But during the kissing scene which is edited out, we see the crowds engrossed, disappointed and then laughing at the strict censorship. Twenty years, and I havent seen a kiss, a man from the audience shouts. During the screening of the Chaplin film, we see the crowd engaged. Kids and adults, rich and poor, men and women laugh together. Cinema thus becomes a great equalizer. But more importantly, this embedded film within a film creates a sense of double nostalgia. The audience in the film is nostalgic as they consume the images in the theater, and we as an audience are nostalgic about our own experiences of watching films, etc like Toto. In Postmodernism, or, the Cultural Logic of Late Capitalism, Jameson writes, Nostalgia films restructure the whole issue of pastiche and project it onto a collective and social level, where the desperate attempt to appropriate a missing past is now refracted through the iron law of fashion change and the emergent ideology of the generation. (19). In Cinema Paradiso, the screened films (Toto and others watch in the theater) create a pasticheHollywood classics, Italian and Art films, popular comedies and so on. However, Jameson explains that the postmodern nostalgia is never a matter of some old-fashioned representation of historical content, but instead approaches the past through stylistic connotation, conveying pastness by the glossy qualities of the image, and 1930s-ness or 1950s-ness by the attributes of fashion (19). Thus keeping Jamesons argument in mind, Cinema Paradiso doesnt represent the historical content by verisimilitude, but evokes the feeling of nostalgia by aesthetic a ppropriation. However, this seems to be a reductive approach to fully understand and appreciate the nuances and texture of Tornatoras film. Joy Marcus, on the other hand argues that in Cinema Paradiso, Tornatore defies the reductiveness of postmodern citation by embedding earlier film footage in his 1989 work so that waning of historicity or aesthetic colonization cannot take place. Every time Tornatora splices images of old movies into Cinema Paradisohe calls attention to what the film is not-that is, he announces the irreconcilable distance between the current work and its cinematic forebears (201). There is a disconnect or distance between the Cinema Paradisos audience watching the embedded film La terra Trema and a simultaneous feeling of connection. Likewise, we also feel a sense of nostalgia and disconnection watching Cinema Paradiso, and watching the audience watch a film. In my viewing of the film, I also noticed that Cinema Paradiso and this scene in particular created a sense of nostalgia for my community, culture and country. The connectedness that Toto and others feel in a small town going to a theater is also the connectedness we as viewers feel towards our past memories of childhood and community. My own experience of watching films in India then symbolizes a nostalgia for the lost homeland and sense of community I once belonged to. The cultural rootedness or lack of it, becomes a way in which the Cinema Paradiso evoked nostalgia for me-or as Jameson puts it eloquently, the film/scene/image consumption becomes a desperate attempt to appropriate a missing past.

A Dolls house Language Essay

Ever since reading the text in my own time I have, in many of my past lessons been discussing, acting and re-reading parts of the play as well as researching many other aspects to the play. By doing this I discovered things like the play was firstly written in Norwegian and then translated into many languages along with many more complex things. Back in lessons I was doing tasks that specifically looked at the language in the play. For example before rein acting a scene from the play the whole class gathered in a circle to do a warm up exercise which evolved around the line; â€Å"What did you do to die today at a minute or two to two, a thing distinctly hard to say but a harder thing to do†. I had to say this line in many different accents and characters including a posh upper class character like Nora and Torvold Helmer from the play. The language used in the play not only creates the feel of the 19th century but it also reflects the way the characters are. It does this as the 19th century old English is very formal showing there middle to higher class and well educated. The language also shows the society that the characters live in and is significant as it reveals their inner thoughts, feelings relationships and situations. In one particular part of the play Torvold says: â€Å"You can’t deny it, little Nora now can you? It’s a sweet little songbird but it gets through a terrible amount of money you wouldn’t believe how much it costs a man when he’s got a little songbird like you† This rather poetic and metaphoric line compares Nora to a songbird which is petit and shows she can be sweet, innocent and chirpy. It also echo’s how Torvold belittles Nora and treats her like a child, which in them days was the done thing; men overpowering women and controlling the relationship in addition to this it perhaps shows how he has a fatherly figure and likes to take control over situations. Although in saying that Nora is or should I say acts rather childlike and naive herself but at the same time is manipulative, flirtatious and cunning as it proves on the opening line of the play; â€Å"Hide that Christmas tree away, Helen. The children mustn’t see it before I’ve decorated it this evening† As well as giving the audience a rough date and establishing shot it shows how Nora seems just as excited about Christmas as the children do. In most houses the children would be helping to set up the Christmas tree but not in the Helmer household Nora is setting up the tree and rather excited about it too. There is some reference to poetry in the text although it is not the rhyming type, it’s more a usage of poetic words being exchanged. Like in the first quote I made there are countless uses of words like â€Å"songbird† and â€Å"squirrel† being used to describe Nora as well as Torvold (in some parts of the play). There is another quote in Act 1 on page 25 where Nora has just gone out and bought some new things for the family, which Torvold is unhappy about as she has spent so much money which makes Nora unhappy too, it says; â€Å"Now, now! My little songbird mustn’t droop her wings. What’s this? Is little squirrel sulking? (takes out his purse) Nora; guess what I’ve got here! This quote to me shows how he just keeps Nora sweet but does not go out of his reach to keep her happy. Also the use of poetic words is very creative and wise it is saying to Nora do not loose hope or become sad. But it says this in a metaphoric way as Nora does not really have wings but a songbird does and this is what Nora is often compared to by Torvold. The majority of the speech used throughout the play is natural from all of the characters as the play itself is done rather realistically and flows well. There are very rare if any uses of Brectian techniques to break any language or any part of the play up for example; there are no placards to make a particular line stand out, this is probably as each line is just as important as the one before. Even though there is reference to use of poetic language I think it gives the play even more of a realistic effect as people do have little pet names for there husband and wife. In addition to this Henrik Ibsen goes that step further and creates for each character there own realm of speech as a quote from the Methuen Student notes verifies: â€Å"Ibsen creates for each character a habit of speech appropriate to his or her own class and personality† With Torvold he is spoken with a rather fatherly/paternal type of speech, Krogstad he always reflects to his training as a lawyer, Mrs Linde speaks direct and could appear a bit bitter and cold, Nora is excitable but finds resolve at the end of the play and Dr Rank speaks in riddles and fondness of using figures of speech. Over all this coursework has made me realise how important the lines actually are in a play and how important it is to deliver them correctly. As well as consistency when delivering the lines in a certain way the character must keep delivering them in that way. I personally believe that this may enhance my skills as a yr 12 drama student.

Positive And Negative Effects Of The Massachusetts Health...

Introduction Since the implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in 2010, there has been a continuous debate about the effects it will have on the United States economy. Many people argue that expanding insurance coverage for all people will create crippling cost burdens for the economy and taxpayers. While others believe that the ACA will in fact give the economy a much-needed boost. In 2006 as a measure to improve overall healthcare, the state of Massachusetts implemented the Health Care Insurance Reform Act. This paper looks at the positive and negative effects of the Massachusetts Health Care Insurance Reform Act (MHRA). Using a literature review of public health studies ranging from 2009-2012, I argue that there are both positive and negative effects of the Massachusetts Health Care Insurance Reform. While the Massachusetts Reform increased health insurance coverage for all citizens and decreased the number of uninsured citizens accessing emergency rooms, it also did very little to de crease already existing racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic disparities among minorities and whites in the state of Massachusetts. Understanding the Massachusetts Health Care Insurance Reform Act may help in the goal of trying to achieve near-universal healthcare. Warlord †Creative Writing Free Essays

â€Å"Half a year before you were born, a great battle was fought and many brave men lost their lives. Your father led his army of seven thousand men into battle, they were fighting the evil Rovonaga. It was a lost cause right from the start, only three thousand of the seven were trained warriors, the rest ordinary men trying to save their homes. We will write a custom essay sample on Warlord – Creative Writing or any similar topic only for you Order Now The odds were four to one as Rovonaga had a force twenty-eight thousand strong, including five thousand cavalry and five thousand archers, each extremely well trained in what they did. It was said every archer could pierce an apple at four hundred yards. The other eighteen thousand were fully armoured samurai with swords so sharp they could cut a human torso clean in half. Our men fought bravely, but the outcome was inevitable, they lost and with it the land. Rovonaga gave no mercy, he murdered every last man until a river of blood flowed. Your father was killed last, they hung him from a tree at the top of a hill so everyone could see him. His body was left there and nobody ever took it down, it slowly decomposed over time and nothing is left, except the rope, which still hangs as a symbol to show what happens if you get in Rovonaga’s way. That is how your father died son, he died an honourable man. A brave man, like your father, may die, but cowards do not live at all. † Akechi remembered when his mother told him that story when he was six years old. That same night Rovonaga’s soldiers broke into their house, tied Akechi to a chair and made him watch as his mum was slowly tortured to death. He managed to break free and run from Yalu, a large province in Japan where he lived. When he was young he remembered his mother telling him what Yalu used to be like before Rovonaga took over. He pictured the image in his head now, a beautiful, free place. Miles upon miles of fields, covered in crops. The warm sun beaming down giving colour and growth to all. The place was alive with animals of every kind, freely running here and there. Butterflies filled the air and birds the sky as rabbits roamed the ground. Farmers tended to their crops happily, at one with the creatures. She said the air smelt so fresh and every breath was like new life rushing into you. The highest hill was covered with trees, its top barely visible. Flowers flourished in-between each tree and she said it was like walking through paradise. No sounds, except those of animals, no smell, except that of freshness. He remembered she once told him she climbed a tree on top of the hill. When she reached the top she was in the clouds, like being in heaven. She never climbed it again as she thought it was so holy it was only meant to be visited by God. Akechi desperately wanted to see this land, as it should be. Then he remembered what it was like before left. Chitu Village lay at the centre of Yalu, this was where Rovonaga lived. It was basically a huge palace for him and his generals. Not a nice place, an ugly place, too big and covered in statues of eerie creatures. Small men with horns and great, giant goblins on top of towers. Surrounding his palace was where his soldiers lived, another ugly place, but luxury compared to outside of Chitu. In the six and a half years Rovonaga had been in Yalu, he had sucked the life out of everything. The people were treated like slaves, only kept alive to serve Rovonaga and his soldiers. They grew all the crops, harvested them yet at the end they saw none of them. They were lucky if they got a meal a day and many died of starvation and exhaustion. The hill where the trees once grew and the flowers flourished was now where a big, black iron gate stood, the only way in or out of Yalu. Walls soared high all around the border, covered with spikes, just as much to keep people in as out. It was a huge prison and the people were prisoners in their own homes. All animals had fled, their habitats destroyed and no life lived inside of these walls. The land was suffocated and the air heavy. People breathed unwillingly, they only did because they knew they had to. Although the sun shone it appeared colourless and so did the land, everything black and white. The dead were not cared for and bodies lay here and there, some fresh others half decomposed. People did not live, they were merely bodies, without souls or spirits, all doing the same routine everyday. Nobody smiled, nobody laughed and most people did not even talk. Guards watched and drove the people on, whipping, beating and killing. When he was six Akechi escaped. He found a small gap in-between the land and the bottom of the wall. He dug furiously, earth flying out behind him. He heard guards coming and so surged on. The gap was now just big enough for him to get through, he did and he had made it, he was free. He ran and ran that night, too scared to stop, tears blurring his vision. Most of the way he cried for his mother, but she was never coming back. By sheer fortune he had run to the coast. There he saw a small trading vessel lying in the harbour. He sneaked upon board and hid himself inside a box. Inside he collapsed from exhaustion and slept for hours. He was in such a deep sleep he did not even know the boat had set sail. The boat took him to China and there he spent the next twenty years of his life. A family took him in and he was raised as if he were one of their own. He joined the Chinese army and with his father’s spirit and his intelligence he rose higher. He became general of the whole of South-East China and many people looked up to him. He was a fine leader and a great strategist. He also became well known for his excellence with the blade. Like his father before him, Akechi was a true samurai warrior. Rovonaga became bored with hid palace life and one day he ordered his troops to got o Chinese ports and burn any ships they saw. He wanted a war, and a war he would get. The Chinese government reacted straight away and ordered Akechi to take his men over to Japan and crush Rovonaga. Akechi rallied his men and they boarded their ships. Under his command Akechi had ten thousand samurai, six thousand archers and two thousand cavalry. A total force of eighteen thousand, but he was outnumbered by Rovonaga’s force. They landed in the same port Akechi had fled from twenty years ago. There the army camped and stayed for the night. The next day was spent unloading the ships and gathering provisions. That night they marched until they were just three miles from the walls of Yalu. Akechi’s plan was one which relied on the element of surprise. He planned to camp for that day and attack at dawn of the next. Armour was strapped on, swords worn and bows carried. He gathered his troops together and told them this. â€Å"I know we are outnumbered in total force, but we will win. We will catch our enemy by surprise and overthrow them. We have more archers and this is a great advantage. Also I am sure you are all thinking that we cannot get past the Walls of Yalu. We will use ladders to get over, rams to smash the gate, any means possible. Have you thought the people of Yalu may help. When they see what is happening they will rise and rebel. Giving us time and maybe letting us in. Be brave all of you. Someone once told me: a brave man may die, but cowards do not live at all. Which one are you, I know my men and all of you are the first. Come on lets march on to victory. † Just as he planned Akechi attacked at dawn. He ordered his archers to fire, and his men to go and ram the gate. A storm of arrows went over the walls, many hitting targets. Ladders went up and men climbed over. Rovonaga quickly rallied his troops and sent them to meet this onslaught. The gate held and could not be breeched, men fell from the ladders and Rovonaga was winning, there was simply no way in. The solid iron gate could only be opened from the inside. The people in Yalu did do what Akechi had hoped, they rebelled and fought the soldiers. This gave Akechi some time, in which he thought and planned. The gap in the wall where he had escaped, it was just around the corner. He had a plan, a trap. He sent his foot soldiers to go down the hill and stay there, he did the same with his cavalry and archers. He took about a thousand men and five hundred archers around to the gap. There he ordered his archers to give covery fire and keep the enemy’s heads down, and with his thousand men he ordered them to dig, but slowly. As he had hoped Rovonaga had seen them do this and assumed it was the whole army. He could not get to them, but he could not afford to let them in. So he chose to go and meet them. The gate opened and first out was Rovonaga and his five thousand cavalry, they galloped around the side to meet the army at the gap. As did the eighteen thousand men that followed. His archers stayed on top of the wall firing down upon Akechi and his men. The men did not see the main bulk of the army at the bottom of the hill, and the trap was set. The gates were left open and three thousand of Akechi’s archers and a thousand of his foot soldiers went inside. Here they killed any remaining soldiers and all of the archers. Then Akechi’s men did what Rovonaga’s archers were doing and fired upon the enemy below. Meanwhile the cavalry and the remaining two thousand five hundred archers and eight thousand foot soldiers went to meet Rovonaga’s force. They attacked the rear and the cavalry charged and chopped the men to pieces. The archers were very effective against Rovonaga’s cavalry and foot soldiers, and severely weakened both. The samurai soldiers cam in to finish the fight off. Rovonaga surrendered and Akechi had won. His men were spared as was he. Rovonaga and his men were kept in prison for the rest of their lives and things slowly returned to normal. The walls were torn down as was the place and the great iron gate. Colour returned to Yalu and so did life. New trees were planted, animals returned and over the years things became increasingly better. Akechi retired from the Chinese army and became ruler of Yalu which China gave back to Japan. Life went on better than ever. Akechi was a great ruler and his people loved him, a true warlord. On-line Minutess The Internet continues to turn at a dramatic rate, with the figure of planetary users now est imated at 195 million – 4.64 % of the world’s population. A major tendency within this growing is the addition in electronic commercialism, with 1999 seeing grosss from Internet shopping grow by 150 % and concern to consumer electronic commercialism bring forthing about $ 12 billion. By 2004 analyst predict that more than 56 per centum of concern worldwide will be on-line ( Rosario, 1 ) . A web site on the World Wide Web allows a company to sell its merchandises or services to this turning market. New methods allow for secure and wholly confidential minutess over the web. Maximizing the usage of the Internet for finishing on-line minutess can salvage a company clip and money. With the rapid progresss in engineering, the capableness to carry on all facets of the concern dealing on the Internet has emerged as a feasible option to making concern in the customary method. # 8220 ; Cost nest eggs are derived through mechanization of administrative undertakings, client keeping by cognizing clients # 8217 ; profiles kept on a database accessible by any employee, velocity in supply procurance, and company leaders being able to do real-time determinations with Windowss into the whole endeavor, anyplace, anytime, # 8221 ; said Oracle Systems # 8217 ; Michael La ( Low, 12 ) . Making our web site more than merely an information site, but a web site that offers clients the ability to carry on existent clip minutess, would make merely this. The key to carry oning minutess over the Internet frailty more traditional methods is simplifying the clients telling process. Simplification must be accomplished while still giving the client the feeling that their demands are being met. Simplification must besides non sacrifice security concerns for the clients. Here is where the service part comes in. All of the other stairss are in topographic point now the existent minutess take topographic point. Depending on what it is the company wants to sell and whom they want to sell it to, will find the type of package to utilize for this intent. Secure Socket Layers or SSL is the anchor of any unafraid dealing ; SSL should be used as the bottom degree of security nevertheless, non entirely. For the occasional client who would take to utilize his or her recognition card there is Secure Electronic Transaction or SET. For business-to-business minutess where the both parties are familiar with each other, Public Key Infrastructure or PKI is an option. Many companies at this clip us Secure Socket Layers as their lone agencies of procuring minutess. This is put on the lining fiddling by on-line stealers and plagiarists. Secure Socket Layers is a footing to construct upon with farther encoding, for a erstwhile dealing it would be safe plenty, but with a company making volumes of concern more security is needed, like Secure Electronic Transaction or Public Key Infrastructure. The Secure Electronic Transaction protocol, launched in 1996, is a common proficient criterion designed to protect payment card purchases over the Internet ( Setco, 1 ) . Secure Electronic Transaction is non a package bundle, but alternatively an industry criterion set up by taking recognition card sellers, Visa and Master Card, to guarantee on-line minutess. Secure Electronic Transaction gives recognition card purchases made over the cyberspace excess beds of security that would guarantee the clients data security at all times. In fact security would be higher than that of a traditional brick and howitzer concern, since no existent people would see the recognition card Numberss. Companies that desire more than merely procure recognition card minutess there are other methods of encoding for all the information they transfer, such as Public Key Infrastructure. Public Key Infrastructure would be particularly beneficially for carry oning business-to-business minutess. Public Key Infrastructure is basically a digital signature that is structurally attached to an electronic papers. The digital signature encases the papers or file with a bed of security that follows the papers. Digitally subscribing e-documents and files provides cogent evidence of individuality of the person who created the papers and at the same clip binds the papers to him, thereby forestalling that single from denying association with such a papers or file at any point in the hereafter.

The monster and Victor Essay Example

The monster and Victor Essay Throughout the novel it becomes apparent the Frankenstein is a morally weak person. His creation kills Frankensteins younger brother, William, and Justine Moritz, a young girl adopted into the Frankenstein household, is blamed for the murder. Although Frankenstein knows Justine is innocent, he doesnt come forward because he fears no one would believe him. His courage does not match his arrogance and his grandiose ideas of himself. He might feel bad that Justine would have to hang, but he isnt brave enough to do anything about it. I was firmly convinced in my own mind that Justine, and indeed every human being, was guiltless of this murder. p. 62 Towards the end of the novel, many changes, somewhat ironic, become apparent. Firstly is the transformation of Victor Frankenstein from a happy, innocent and bright little boy with a loving family and a contented childhood to a guilt-ridden man, obsessed by his work. He becomes despondent, and at times suicidal, not to mention homicidal. By the end of the novel Frankenstein is ill beyond cure and so traumatised from his lifelong battle with his creation that he has little strength to recount his tale to a his friend, Robert Walton. The Monster has murdered most of his family, and those left of his family are distant from him. Another ironic change to Frankenstein is that at the start of the novel he is so obsessed with the creation of a super human being that he gives up everything else in his life to focus on this work. Although Frankenstein realises that he has made a mistake, and regrets bringing the being to life and recognising that he has ventured beyond the acceptable boundaries of science, by the end of the novel, when he is with his friend Walton on a boat in the Arctic, hunting down the monster, he urges them forward even though they will probably die, showing that he never really learned his lesson that sometimes there is point when you should stop, even if it is possible to go on. This ice is not made of such stuff as your hearts may be; it is mutable and cannot withstand you if you say that it shall not. p. 164 In contrast, his friend Walton is more sensible and concerned about the lives of the seamen and does not want to go on. Alas! yes; I cannot withstand their demands. I cannot lead them unwillingly to danger, and I must return p. 165 He is taking responsibility for his crew; something that Frankenstein could never to do. Walton learns that you have to consider other peoples lives and feelings before trying to achieve your own goal. Throughout the novel, Frankenstein hardly ever thinks about other peoples feelings, whether it is his creation, his father, Justine, or Walton and his crew. Frankensteins Creation The second main character of the story is Frankensteins creation. His creation is also a complex character and it is through him that Shelley deals with issues of identity, prejudice and responsibility. Frankenstein doesnt give his creation a name, something that denies the Monster an identity. This implies that the Monster is not unique or an individual, which at first denies him a real existence. Frankenstein calls the creature various names such as It showing he doesnt regard the creation as having a soul, Monster, Wretch which are both derogatory terms implying monstrosity and Daemon implying he is naturally evil or even possessed by an evil spirit. Ultimately, Frankenstein implies that the being belongs in Hell. From this, the Monster starts to believe he truly is a fiend and actually a fallen angel but refuses to accept that it is his own fault and warns Frankenstein to take responsibility for his actions. One night the creature takes refuge in a small hovel adjacent to a cottage. In the morning, he discovers that he can see into the cottage through a crack in the wall. Observing his neighbours for an extended period of time, the monster notices that they often seem unhappy, though he is unsure why. He eventually realizes, however, that their despair results from their poverty, to which he has been contributing by surreptitiously stealing their food. Torn by his guilty conscience, he stops stealing their food and does what he can to reduce their hardship, gathering wood at night to leave at the door for their use. Vowing to learn their language he acquires a basic knowledge of the language, including the names of the young man and woman, Felix and Agatha. Unobserved and well protected from the elements, he grows increasingly affectionate toward his unwitting hosts. The monsters growing understanding of the social significance of family is connected to his sense of otherness and solitude. The cottagers devotion to each other underscores Victors total abandonment of the monster; ironically, observing their kindness actually causes the monster to suffer, as he realizes how truly alone, and how far from being the recipient of such kindness, he is. This lack of interaction with others, in addition to his namelessness, compounds the monsters woeful lack of social identity. Formerly a mysterious, grotesque, completely physical being, the monster gradually becomes a verbal, emotional, sensitive, almost human figure that communicates his past to his creator, Victor Frankenstein in eloquent and moving terms. But, far from seeing the monsters humanity beneath his grotesque appearance Victor just fears him more. Before, it was the monsters physical strength, endurance, and apparent ill will that made him such a threat; now, it is his intellect. The monster clearly understands his position in the world, the tragedy of his existence and abandonment by his creator, and is out to seek either redress or revenge. For the first time, Victor starts to realize that what he has created is not merely the scientific product of an experiment on dead matter but an actual living being with needs and wants. While Victor curses the monster as a demon, the monster responds to Victors coarseness with surprising sensitivity, proving him an educated, emotional, exquisitely human being. For the reader, whose experience with the monsters ugliness is second-hand, it is easy to identify the human sensitivity within him and sympathize with his plight, especially in light of Victors relentless contempt for him. The gap between the monster and Victor, and between the monster and human beings in general, is thus narrowed. One of the ways in which the monster demonstrates his eloquence is by alluding to John Miltons Paradise Lost, one of the books he reads while living in the peasants hovel. The first of these allusions occurs in these chapters, when the monster tries to convince Victor to listen to his story. He entreats Victor: Remember, that I am thy creature: I ought to be thy Adam; but I am rather the fallen angel. P. 73 By comparing Victor to God, the monster heaps responsibility for his evil actions upon Victor, scolding him for his neglectful failure to provide a nourishing environment. In this part of the novel, the Monster starts to question his own existence, after reading work of literature. This shows he is now intelligent and philosophical. In contrast to this, Frankenstein takes life for granted. Without a real identity, the Monster needs more information about himself. He is self-aware, which is the main quality that separates the Monster from animals. This is unlike Frankenstein who has little self-awareness. My person was hideous and my stature gigantic. What did this mean? Who was I? What was I? Whence did I come? What was my destination? These questions continually recurred, but I was unable to solve them. P. 99 The Monster also questions why humans are always the victimised ones, and why he is always the perpetrator. He is bemoaning mans narrow-mindedness and injustice. While everyone else has rejected and committed crimes against him, he is still the one to be prosecuted. He then talks of the innocent people he has killed, and begins to feel remorse for his deeds: You hate me; but your abhorrence cannot equal that with which I regard myself This shows his guilt for what he has done, in contrast with Frankenstein who never seems to learn his lesson and never shows remorse. The Monster requests a partner from Frankenstein, a basic request and a basic counterbalance to the immense loneliness the Monster feels. What I ask of you is reasonable and moderate; I demand a creature of another sex and it shall content me. Oh! my creator, make me happy do not deny me my request! This shows the Monster is very realistic compared to Frankenstein and also that he desires someone that will accept him for who/what he really is. This is compared to Frankensteins ideas which are God-like in proportion. Through out the novel the two main characters take on reversed roles. The monster starts to hate Victor because he has no one to relate to and so tries to make Victor feel the pain of his loneliness and so kills anyone close to Victor, finally killing Victors new wife and indirectly Victors father, who dies a few days later, of the shock. Like the monster, Frankenstein finds himself utterly alone in the world, but instead of pity for his creation, he just feels hatred and with his hatred he soon takes on very inhumanity of which he accuses the monster. He becomes very ill by his worry and obsession and follows the monster to the barren Arctic north to track him down to murder him, just as the monster has murdered his loved ones. There he meets his friend Walton who helps him search for the monster. They become trapped in ice and Victor, knowing that he is near death, urges his friend Walton to carry on their search. Frankenstein dies and Walton finds the monster crying over his creator. The monster tells Walton of his sufferings and how he regrets killing people and now that his creator is dead, the only person he ever related to, he, too, is ready to die so he leaves for the Northern ice. This open ending leaves the questions in the mind of the reader to ponder. 1) Through the character of Victor Frankenstein, we are invited to ask what makes us human and what are our limits. 2) Through the character of the monster, we are left asking, was he Adam or Satan? Was he a victim or a criminal? And so what does it mean to be human?

buy custom Drink Healthy Corporation essay

buy custom Drink Healthy Corporation essay The target audience for this proposal is high schools students and this is so because of many reasons. To begin with, most high school students are at their adolescent stage, and most of them consume a lot of food and drinks. They therefore purchase lots of these foods and beverages from different people; some of these might be a potential danger to their health. A study published in 2005 showed that high school children in the United States consume a lot of light soft drinks. The study put the consumption frequency of these drinks at 82% (Vereecken, 2005). Secondly, high school students have the knowledge and an understanding of their health. This is because most district high schools always recommend that their students take a compulsory course on health matter before their graduation. Undertaking such an exercise in schools will give these students a chance to put the theory they learn in health classes into practice. Such practice is meant to equip the students with even more kno w-how on healthy eating habits which should be improved and maintained even into adulthood (Vereecken, 2005). Another reason for choosing high school is that rapid growth takes place during adolescence, and the bodily features acquired during adolescence always determine the future wellbeing of an individual. Therefore, it is important to povide healthy foods to students and inform them on healthy matters so that their body parts develop in a healthy manner (Vereecken, 2005). Lastly, high school students often interact with various individuals; one will find that they have friends in school, their family members and many other social places. This means that if they are educated on healthy eating habits, they are most likely able to pass this information to many other individuals who will indirectly benefit in this project. Our proposal would be unique as we would provide stands and mobile shops around the school. We will also provide training services during public and athletic events in the school. Job Opportunities for Students Providing job opportunities equips them with knowledge and gives them an opportunity to practice what they have learnt. It also ensures that they act responsibly on the tasks they are allocated and this ensures that they are conscious of what they indulge in. Job opportunities also improve the students capability to help others and learn from them. Just like college students gain real world knowledge while going on internship program, high school students can learn to gain similar knowledge while working during athletic events or even public events that have been organized by schools in the district. Havving job training can assist students to learn how to manage their time and events and provide them with a perspective of how they have to prepare themselves for their future professional life. Statistics on Obesity Obesity among teenagers is the leading health problem in the United States of America. A report by the Institute of Medicine indicates that over 8 million children over 6 years have obesity, of these 14% are overweight (TT, 2009). This number continues to enlarge with time. What is even more alarming is the fact that adolescents with obesity always maintain this problem into adulthood. This means that in the future health of most Americans will be at risk, and there might be no role models to teach children and the adolescents on healthy eating habits (TT, 2009). Teenagers that have obese problems face a lot of challenges in social places such as schools. There is a discrimination which is distressing to these students, and this eventually results to stress and low self-esteem among teenagers. These teenagers may never get a chance to improve their status. The major causes of obesity are unhealthy eating habits and lack of physical practice. Teenagers and their parents should ensure that they indulge in physical practice and consume healthy foods in order to avoid obesity (TT, 2009). Buy custom Drink Healthy Corporation essay
